APOLLO Expands Protection with Enhanced Additional Living Expenses (ALE) Coverage

APOLLO Insurance, Canada’s leading digital insurance provider, has introduced an industry-first enhancement to Additional Living Expenses (ALE) coverage, designed to better protect renters when their home becomes unlivable or inaccessible, even without direct physical damage. 

Traditionally, ALE coverage only applied when a tenant’s unit was directly damaged by an insured peril. With APOLLO’s new enhancement, coverage now extends to situations where the unit is “reasonably unlivable” due to a covered event, ensuring renters are protected when real-life disruptions prevent them from safely using their home. or if essential services like water, electricity, heating, or cooling are lost 

For example, if a fire in a building disables the elevators, a tenant living on the 40th floor is unlikely to be able to reasonably access their home. Under APOLLO’s new ALE wording, that tenant now qualifies for ALE coverage to help offset the cost of emergency expenses such as temporary accommodation, food, etc., even if their unit wasn’t physically damaged in the fire.

With this update, APOLLO continues to set the standard for renter-focused innovation in tenant insurance. 

Existing policyholders will receive this benefit through the updated definition of ALE coverage at renewal, while new customers will automatically receive it with every new tenant insurance policy, at no additional cost.
