What is not covered by student tenant insurance?
Tenant insurance provides protection for a wide range of risks that a tenant may face, but there are certain things that are typically not covered by this type of insurance. These may include:
Damage caused by certain natural disasters: Depending on the policy, damage caused by certain natural disasters such as earthquakes or flooding may not be covered.
Damage caused by your own negligence: If your child causes damage to the rental property due to their own negligence, such as leaving the stove on and causing a fire, the tenant insurance policy may not cover the damages.
High-value items: The policy may have coverage limits for certain high-value items, such as jewelry or artwork. If the value of these items exceeds the policy limit, you may need to purchase additional coverage.
Illegal activities: If damage or loss is caused as a result of illegal activities conducted in the rental unit, the insurance policy may not cover the damages.
It's important to review the insurance policy document carefully to understand exactly what is and isn't covered.
Can the policy be transferred to a new location?
If you decide to move, we can help transfer the Student Tenant's policy to cover the new location. This policy is specifically designed for students, whether they live on or off campus.

Does this policy cover all of my belongings no matter what happens?
As a student living away from home, it's important to protect your personal belongings in case of unexpected events. Student tenant insurance can cover your belongings in the event of covered losses like theft, fire, water damage, and more.
However, there may be special limits on certain contents, such as jewelry, and a deductible that needs to be paid before coverage kicks in. We recommend reviewing your policy carefully to ensure that you understand your coverage and any limitations that may apply.

Is a deductible required for covered losses?
If you experience a covered loss and need to make a claim on your insurance policy, you may be required to pay a deductible. The amount of the deductible will be shown on the Declaration page of your policy and will typically be subtracted from the total amount of your covered loss. This means that we will only pay the portion of the covered loss that exceeds the deductible.
However, some special coverages under the Tenant's package may not require a deductible. For example, certain coverages such as lock replacement, freezer food spoilage, and fire department charges may be exempt from the deductible requirement.
To ensure that you have a clear understanding of policy's deductible requirements and any applicable exemptions, we recommend reviewing policy documentation.

Does the policy cover roommates too?
Student tenant insurance policies do not cover roommates. Each tenant will need their own insurance policy to cover their personal belongings and liability. It's important for each roommate to obtain their own policy to ensure they have proper coverage in the event of a loss. It's also a good idea for all roommates to be named on the lease and to communicate with each other about insurance coverage to avoid any confusion or gaps in coverage.
